NATIONAL ROUND TABLE ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMY (NRTEE)
Bruno Luzak, President of AESAC was invited to attend the NRTEE Brownfield Redevelopment Strategy  Multi-Stakeholder workshop in Ottawa on June 11-12,2002.  The Brownfield National Strategy is working to initiate development of the Brownfields in Canada and the final Brownfield Strategy document is expected to be announced early in 2003.

In a 2001 budget statement Canadian Federal Finance Minister, Paul Martin, asked the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE) to develop a brownfield redevelopment strategy for Canada.  (The NRTEE is an independent advisory body that provides recommendations for promoting sustainable development.  Our members are distinguished Canadians appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada representing a broad range of sectors, including business, labour, academia, environmental organizations and First Nations Across Canada, hundreds of  thousands of brownfield sites lie abandoned or underutilized, the result of a century of industrialization.

These sites present a complex array of challenges for communities in every part of Canada
Left idle and unmanaged, such sites represent a significant loss of economic opportunity. They adversely impact the image and quality of life in neighbourhoods and they may pose risks to human health and ecological integrity
